A mere excuse for Rydalness

Direct Transport based walk with Martin Roberts.

12.8 mi

700m

Giving a true flavour of the Lake District and all it has to offer, this walk takes in Loughrigg Fell with wonderful views of the surrounding hills, provides a chance to explore some caves, offers a wander through the grounds of Rydal Hall and a walk along the Coffin Trail to Grasmere village, taking in delightful views across Rydal Water and Grasmere.

After a gentle skirmish with the shoreline of Grasmere the walk heads up to Loughrigg Terrace and on to Loughrigg Tarn before heading back into Ambleside.

Aim to park at Rydal Road Car Park (the main car park just to the north - LA22 9AN) but this will obviously depend on the availability of parking spaces. The walk will start from this car park.

The price for parking is £7 for 12 hours, also there's a 20p charge for the public toilets.

Gaiters are recommended as recent rain has made the ground saturated in places.
