Public Transport based walk with Sarah Peppiatt.
Clocks changed yesterday so must be time for a proper long walk and this is an epic moorland route that climbs early in the day and stays up in the hills most of the day (including a strenuous off path section) until we drop down through the Pennine foothills to the tram stop at Shaw and Crompton. NB: Manchester Victoria is closed to trains for the bank holiday so we are leaving from Piccadilly & you will need to check your transport arrangements beforehand.

Change at Stalybridge to meet the Greenfield train. Possible to join us at Stalybridge if that helps: Greenfield train departs 09:12
NB: walk leader will join train at Warrington, so already on train when it comes into Piccadilly.
There are no bail outs on this walk. However there are multiple points we can adapt the walk if the weather/ground conditions are against us. This does mean this is not a car based walk as we may finish at any of about 4 stations... If we finish at Marsden you will need an extra single ticket back to Greenfield (approx £7)
This is a hard walk, involving a lot of rough ground and a significant off path section including some semi scrambling up stream banks and a bit of wading possibly too. You must be prepared to walk the full distance. Bring appropriate gear for the weather and sufficient food/water for the whole day.
Bring a torch just in case this goes wrong.
