Ten Towers - in reverse order

Public Transport based walk with Stephen Smith.

17.0 mi

1005m

**Please note  - this walk is now being done from Hebden to Tod, the reverse order to that originally advertised. The most walker friendly pubs in Hebden are still out of action following the Boxing Day Floods, so Tod is a better place to conclude our stroll **

Or perhaps a few more than ten.  And 'tower' covers everything from church towers to telecoms towers via, of course, a 'Castle' tower and the odd mill chimney and structure that there's because of a war.

We START in Hebden, climbing quickly out of Calder valley heading north before turning about face and heading back down to Midgehole and the Hebden Valley. Then back up to Heptonstall and its two church towers, down to the Colden valley and then the climb to Stoodley Pike.

The stretch over the top to Tod is the most exposed part of the route, though also offers the longest period without having to do any climbing. The final stretch of the walk is down to Walsden, up a few metres onto the western side of the valley before dropping down to Todmorden.

Given the distance and the time of year, the usual disclaimers discouraging dawdling and encouraging the bringing of snorkels and other appropriate clothing and equipment apply.
