A trip to a Parish with a very long name

Public Transport based walk with Stephen Smith.

20.5 mi

Worsthorne-with-Hurstwood seemed an entertainingly named parish to briefly visit and involved going further west than most Hebden starting/finishing walks go.

We'll start going up the Buttress, the very steep cobbled track out of Hebden, skirt Heptonstall above the cliffs then head for the Moors and the reservoirs - first the Gorples and then Hurstwood. The journey back involves an attractive hidden valley, some peeks of some turbines and some sheep surprised to see human-kind invading their solitude before a return via the more touristy and populated Craggs (though if we're short of time/wet/tired, there are quicker routes back which we will take).

Disclaimers: There is about a mile of up-hill off-path which is hard work and likely to be soggy unless it doesn't rain a drop for the preceding month. We'll go slowly (yes, really). There is a similar distance of on-path where you sometimes need to play spot-the-path. Other than these little, minor features, and perhaps the climbing at the start to get onto the hills, it's easy enough as a walk. Bail out points don't, however, really exist and means of staying dry should be brought.
