Public Transport based walk with Andrew Forbes.
Walk leader to join the train at Stockport
This walk is one of my favourites and with nearly 900 metres ascent is just right for burning off festive excesses and boosting that already dwindling 'healthier you' new year promise.
The route has a couple of short steep climbs and a longer but gentler climb to get up onto the highest points but the views of the surrounding landscape once up there, hopefully with the addition of some snow, are certainly worth it. There is a lovely vista of Errwood reservoir as we head down from the tops towards a pretty woodland section before the last gentle (but prolonged) moorland climb to bring us up over Burbage and down into Buxton
It's going to be cold and we'll be exposed to the elements on the high section of the route, so layers, hat, gloves and sturdy footwear are essential.
The first part of the walk is likely to have some wet & muddy sections so please bring gaitors or waterproofs if you have them.
This walk has NO bailout points.
Please bring a torch in case we don't get back in the daylight.
We'll stop off at one of the pubs in Buxton whilst waiting for the train home.
