A flat walk north through the dunes and along the coast from Freshfield along the coast to the sea front at Southport to see the Southport Air Show

Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport

We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.

09:00: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 09:22. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.

Suggested ticket:

Off Peak Day Return to Freshfield £12.60. Train at Manchester Piccadilly is to Southport, change at Southport for Merseyrail service to Freshfield.

09:22: Train departs for the walk start at Freshfield Railway Station.

11:05: Walk starts at Freshfield Railway Station.

Return from Southport Station. xx:23 direct to Manchester, Frequent services via Merseyrail to Liverpool where connections to Manchester are available.

Waypoints: Fisherman's Path, Ainsdale Sand Dunes, Big Ball's Hill, Sefton Coastal Path, Trans Pennine Trail, Pleasureland, Ocean Plaza, Southport Seafront.


This walk will be ending at the sea front in Southport where the Southport Air Show will be happening, aiming to arrive for 2pm in time to see one of the last displays (Weather Permitting of Course) of the Vulcan at approx 2.35pm, as well as some of the following displays by other aircraft.

Should you wish to go back to Southport Station, it is a 10-15 minute walk from the seafront to the station and directions will be given.

Train also calls at Oxford Road at 0924, Deansgate at 0928, Salford Crescent at 0933 and Wigan Wallgate at 1002. No toilets at Freshfield Station or on Merseyrail Train, please use those on train to Southport or at Southport Station.
