Direct Transport based scramble with Rick Connor.
FULLY BOOKED - please email for waitlist. 2nd walk leader needed - see below.
Our first scramble in the Lakes as part of the scramble season takes us to the Langdale Pikes around the Great Langdale valley, west of Ambleside. Our target scramble is Jack's Rake, a ledge which traverses diagonally across and up the face of Pavey Ark. The route consists of fairly easy scrambling but is very exposed in places, so a head for heights is essential. More details (including a photo of Jack's Rake) here.
Our route takes the Langdale Pikes and forms a semicircle around the Langdale Valley with very fine views in clear conditions, ending at Angle Tarn and a somewhat easier descent back down to the valley. Then it's back along the flat of the Cumbria Way to a well deserved drink in the hikers bar at the Old Dungeon Ghyll.
Meet & Travel arrangements - Direct
This is a walk with direct transport arrangements, meeting at the walk start.
10:00: Meet at the walk start (Old Dungeon Ghyll Carpark, Langdales)
10:15 Walk starts.
Whilst Jack's Rake is classed at the easier Grade 1, the route follows a diagonal ledge up the side of Pavey Ark and is very exposed, so is not for beginners.
Maximum 8 places for Jack's Rake due to route exposure - to book on to the wait list, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer Walk Leader Wanted! If someone else is willing to lead an alternative ascent to Jack's Rake (i.e. without the scrambling) and regroup later in the day, I'm happy to open this up to anyone else who wants to come along on the day - email me at email@example.com and I'll update the details here accordingly. Note that booking is still required for the Rake.
