A steep one (or two)

Public Transport based walk with Sarah Peppiatt.

15.0 mi

A mid-length walk with a lot of ascent: ideal if you're wanting to push yourself a bit further than usual! Lots of moorland linked by a very pretty section through woodland. Expect 2 steep & long ascents, some off path, including one long downhill section, some very wet rough paths and a few streams to ford.

Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport

We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.

09:00: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 09:18. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.

Suggested ticket:

Wayfarer ticket £12:

09:18: Train departs for the walk start at Glossop Station.

09:50: Walk starts at Glossop Station.

Return from Edale Station. X:47 aiming for 17:47

Waypoints: Yellowslacks; Hern Stones; Upper North Grain; Lady Clough; Seal Stones; Crookstone; Golden Clough; Edale

Extra Note:

The moorland parts of the walk are very exposed so you will need to be properly equipped for the weather. You must have waterproofs and warm layers even if the forecast is good..

No bailout points or pub stops etc so you'll need fluid/food for the whole day.

Parts of the route are rather soggy so gaiters, waterproofs, stilts may be useful. The streams were easily fordable on the recce but if it's been wet in the week before spare socks may be an idea.
