A sefton coast ramble

Public Transport based walk suitable for new walkers, with Thomas Featherstone.

10.0 mi

150m

*** -- Walk leader will meet the group at Southport rail station -- ***

A variation of the popular 'Freshfield to Southport' walk, this linear coastal walk takes in the best parts of the Sefton Coastal path from Liverpool to Southport (in my opinion). Starting in Hightown, we will pass by the Altcar rifle range, and continue to Cabin hill nature reserve and the surrounding fields. We will then pass through the Formby red squirrel reserve and proceed through sand dunes to the beach. We will walk alongside the sea before turning inland and walk through the Ainsdale woodland reserve and finish with a walk up Shore Road to Ainsdale train station. From here, there is the option to get the train back to Southport (every 15 minutes), but for those wishing to stay on, we will get the train back to Freshfield for some drinks in The Freshfield (http://gkpubs.co.uk/pubs-in-liverpool/freshfield-pub/).
