10 Years, 10 Marathons - West Pennine Moors

Public Transport based walk with Anthony Helm.

24.7 mi

934m

The tenth in the series of marathon walks. Three nice hills to climb, we start with the Jubilee Tower on Darwen Hill, we then visit the Peel Tower on Holcombe Hill, then over to the wind farm on Scout Moor, before dropping down to the finish in Bury. Plenty of variety on this walk, moorland, farmland, woodland and passing a couple of reservoirs too. There is long grass on the moors, and it may be a bit boggy, so gaiters are advised. We should be finished before dusk but bring a head torch just in case. There is an opportunity to stock up on provisions in Ramsbottom at just over half distance, and there's a nice bar in Bury for a celabratory refreshment at the end.
