A hat trick of cave walks: Part 3; White Scar Cave & Ingleborough

Car based walk with Andrew Forbes.

12.2 mi

651m

The third and final cave walk takes us over to Yorkshire.  We start from the small village of Ingleton, going past a nice wee tea shop as we head north out of the village on a singletrack road.  We'll soon be heading over open fields towards the first of two stepping stone stream crossings and a short woodland section. We then have a road section of roughly 700m leading up to White Scar Cave.  There is a grass verge but no pavement so care must be taken.

We'll join the tour of White Scar Cave.  It's 1 mile long and takes around 1 hour 20 minutes to complete.  The tour costs £9.50 or £8.50 for groups of 12 or more.

We have another road section on leaving White Scar Cave of around 1.4km before the second stepping stone stream crossing  and a few miles of open dales before the start of the gradual climb towards the base of Ingleborough. Ingleborough is the hardest and steepest section of the walk, but rewarding once at the top.  We leave the summit of Ingleborough and return to Ingleton via 'A Pennine Journey'.  The descent is along clear paths, returning us to Ingleton from the east.
