The Long and the Short of it: Part 1

Public Transport based walk with Sarah Peppiatt.

13.0 mi

904m

What better way to celebrate the longest day of the year than by walking?! To make the most of the daylight I'm leading 3, yes 3, separate walks back to back on the same day, so there should be something for everybody. Want to properly stretch your legs? Do all 3 walks and you'll get nearly 30 miles walking in!! Fancy something more leisurely? There'll be a 10 mile afternoon route and a 6.5 mile evening route to allow you to lie in, plus a 13 mile morning route if you've got other plans during the day. Full details for each of the walks below.

Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport

We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.

07:45: Meet at Manchester Victoria for the train at 07:57. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.

Suggested ticket:

Return to Greenfield £4.20

07:57: Train departs for the walk start at Greenfield Station.

08:20: Walk starts at Greenfield Station.

Return from Greenfield Station. X:36 aiming for 13:36

Waypoints: Alphin Trig; Chew Reservoir; Dovestones Reservoir; Intake Lane

Extra Note:

This is part 1 of the 3 options for today. Because we need to make the train on time to meet the second group the pace needs to be quite brisk (5 hours to do the walk in). Please be prepared.

Also note that much of the walk is on very exposed moorland so you must have appropriate kit for the weather

If you intend to do walk 2 as well, get a return ticket to Marsden (£9.60). If you intend to do all 3 walks a return to Greenfield is all you need.
