Public Transport based walk with Andy Buckley.
Please note that we will be taking the tram from Shudehill Tram Station
Ho-Ho-Ho!! It's the time of year to get the tinsel and fairy lights out and have a walk with a bit of a diference, where fancy dress is an option (that can be from as little as a Santa hat or a full blown costume!) followed by a pre-booked christmas meal.
This years walk is slightly different as it is a linear walk and involves many types of public transport. We will meet at Manchester Victoria/Shudehill (depending whether the new Manchester Victoria tram stop is open, I will keep you advised on the situation) to get the tram to Bury with a ten minute walk over to the East Lancs Railway were we join the Santa steam train to Rawtenstall for our linear walk to Ramsbottom.
The walk take us through urban sections of Rawtenstall followed by a riverside walk along the Irwell before heading up to Irwell Vale and then up through the woods passing under the disused viaduct to the foot of the moors and then heading along the level tracks towards Peel Tower but we cut off down into Ramsbottom before reaching the tower and back to the pub for our christmas meal.
The return journey from Ramsbottom to Bury wil be via bus with a 20 minute journey time. These run all the way up to midnight and are every 15 minutes were we will pick up the tram back to Manchester.
The cost of the Santa Walk this year is £29. This price includes the cost of the meal, the steam train journey to Rawtenstall and sundries. Any surplus left over will be donated to the local MRT.
This walk is a PRE-BOOKED WALK and is open to MEMBERS OF MAD WALKERS ONLY. We are limted to 40 PLACES on this walk, to book on this walk please e-mail Santa.email@example.com with your MAD membership number from 8pm on the 1st November including your membership number.
