Hurst Green, Tolkien and Middle Earth?

Car based walk with Debbie Mannion and Nicky Bryan.

6.5 mi

140m

The walk starts in the village of Hurst Green which is 8Km/5 miles west of Clitheroe. We walk along the Ribble Valley adjacent to the Rivers Ribble and Hodder before following a path at the edge of a plantation adjacent to Stonyhurst College. It is said that J.R.R. Tolkien, his wife and children, regularly stayed at a guest house in the grounds belonging to Stonyhurst College.
