South Pennines circular

Public Transport based walk suitable for new walkers, with James Johnson.

7.3 mi

There is engineering work on the Metrolink on the day of this walk so trams will not be running between Piccadilly Gardens and Central Park. We will be catching a tram replacement bus to Central Park, which stops outside Victoria station at the junction of Corporation Street / Hanover Street on the train station side of Corporation Street. I have put the walk start time back to allow people extra time to buy tram tickets and find this bus stop.

We will be using the tram to get out to Newhey at the foot of the Pennines for this walk through a region of moorland and hill country. The walk starts off with a gradual climb as we head out of Newhey on a track and then drop down to Piethorne Reservoir for lunch. We will then be taking a cross country route back into Newhey were there's an optional pub stop at the end.
