WALK LEADERS MEETING AT WALK START

This is your chance to visit two nature reserves on the flat West Lancashire Plain!  We begin by walking along the canal to reach Mere Sands Wood for a picnic stop.  After a circuit of Mere Sands Wood we later go past Martin Mere.  Whilst we will get to see a part of Martin Mere on this walk, the walk does not enter Martin Mere since there is an entry fee (see below).  For those who wish to visit all of Martin Mere, you will be able to cut the walk short and it's easy to self navigate back to New Lane Station less than a mile away from Martin Mere.  For those who choose to remain on the walk, we will continue a circular route and there will be a pub stop 2 miles after Martin Mere, at about 9 miles in, and a further pub stop at the end!

It's recommended that any keen birdwatchers bring binoculars!

For anyone considering the Martin Mere visit the aim is to reach Martin Mere before 3:30pm so that you have at least 2 hours to go round. Martin Mere shuts at 5:30pm and there's a train at 6:04pm that you should be able to catch, but if there's a disaster with the trains the sunset is at 6:30pm so please bring a torch in case if you're thinking of visiting Martin Mere!
