Following Bolton’s babbling brooks

Public Transport based walk suitable for new walkers, with Kate Atty.

Please note the change of transport arrangements due to rail replacement buses.

A pleasant meander along some of Bolton’s lesser trodden paths.

We’ll start from Bromley Cross station with a loop of the lovely Jumbles reservoir, after which we’ll follow Bradshaw Brook down to Longsight Park. From here, we’ll pass through Firwood Fold where we will find the oldest inhabited house in Bolton and the former home of Samuel Crompton who invented the spinning jenny.

Not long after this, we’ll pass Hall i’th’ Wood, a Grade 1 listed Tudor Manor House from the early 16th century. We’ll then pick up Eagley Brook, following it to Eagley Mills to stop and have a drink at the Spread Eagle pub. From here, it is about a ten minute walk back to Bromley Cross station.
