North West Passage

Public Transport based walk with Sarah Peppiatt.

Engineering works having rather messed up plans for a Welsh walk this weekend, here's another instalment in the Peak District Boundary Walk. This one follows the north western edge of the Peak District crossing the Saddleworth moors and then dropping down into Marsden.

Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport

We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.

08:10: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 08:17. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.

Suggested ticket:

Either rail ranger ticket £6.80 or Wayfarer if coming in from further afield (£13) plus single from Marsden to Greenfield (£6.10)

08:17: Train departs for the walk start at Glossop Station.

08:50: Walk starts at Glossop Station.

Return from Marsden Station. hourly aiming for 18:29

Waypoints: Pennine Bridleway; Ogden Clough; Alphin Trig; Dovestones Reservoir; Obelisk; Brun Clough Reservoir; Black Edge; Marsden

Extra Note:

Strenuous walk with a lot of ascent so be sure you're capable of doing the walk at a reasonable pace before coming. Possible to drop out at Greenfield (about 10 miles in) although you'll need to navigate yourself to the station which is about a mile away the route.

Walk is over a lot of exposed moorland and judging by ground conditions is likely to be soggy. Come properly equipped with good waterproof footwear, waterproofs, layers and enough food/fluid for the whole day.
