Three Thirds: Woodland, Water (nearly), Wiggles

Public Transport based walk with Stephen Smith.

A walk of three thirds, with more woodland than we normally walk through and a fair sprinkling of climbs and drops - though the two most fun are in the first couple of miles when still close to town.

We start with the walk up Heptonstall Buttress and after we've reached the village drop down to Hardcastle Crags. The next few miles are spent walking up the valley - including on a newly repaired (ie not falling down the hill and requiring advanced gymnastics to walk along) path - before a large loop round at the top near the reservoirs and we start our return journey well above the treeline.

A hop down to the valley base and Gibson Mill and then back up again the other side towards the Colden Valley and a visit to one of the areas other valleys before we reach town again. Whilst we have a few miles on good solid path, the bulk of the walk isn't, so boots that offer good support and can cope with water underfoot are important. We'll need to take time over the tricky sections and thus have a good pace along the easy bits to get us back before its dark.

NB. Walk Leader meeting at walk start. Plentiful car parking at Hebden Bridge Station. No easy drop out points, but we're never far from a quiet road which would be almost impossible to get lost on on the way back to Hebden
