Yorkshire 3 Peaks Day-Time Version (DIY Weekend)

Direct Transport based walk with Alex Laver and Pete Dolan.

The Classic Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, a truely great walk.

Starting at the cafe in Horton In Ribblesdale, we'll quickly start the ascent up Pen-y-ghent(694m) which includes a little mild scrambling and than have a bit of a long low level walk until we reach the Ribblesdale Viaduct and start to climb Whernside(736m). The ascent is long and gradual but offers great views (sometimes!) and the descent is quite steep and quick. After a quick toilet break at the makeshift cafe, we'll head towards the final peak of Ingleborough(723m). The climb is steep and tough but once we're at the top that's the end of the climbing for the day. Once we leave the summit, it's all downhill as we head back towards Horton In Ribblesdale.

Accommodation (at 2 pubs) and camping is available at Horton if required but it's advisable to book early. There will be a number of us booking the Fri/Sat nights at Holme Farm campsite 01729 860281.

Although it's a meet at the walk start, please email me if you can possibly offer lifts to others - walks@madwalkers.org.uk

There is a drop out point in Ribblesdale where you can get the train back to Horton.

There are several pay and display car parks near the walk start - Penyghent Cafe.

Due to the distance, we'll need to walk at a brisk pace so reasonable fitness is required and full waterproofs are vital (regardless of the forecast).
