Another nice 10 miler - Moor or less

Public Transport based walk with Mike Dent.

Walk leader to meet at walk start

Two and a half years after leading my first walk, I have arrived at number 10. Perhaps not as impressive as Andy Buckley's recent 10-related milestone, but a milestone non-the-less, which I decided to mark by returning to that first walk.

Heading straight out of Broadbottom station, up on to Mottram Hill. We then pass an old quarry on the way up to the Cairn on Hobson Moor - if we're lucky, there are views out across Manchester and towards Wales. We then head round the moor to Brushes resevoir, before joining the canal into Stalybridge and heading round to the station - with its famous buffet bar.

Please pack a torch just incase the light is fading towards the end.

Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport

We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.

09:20: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 09:30. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.

Suggested ticket:

Greater Manchester Rail Ranger £6.40

09:30: Train departs for the walk start at Broadbottom.

10:10: Walk starts at Broadbottom.

Return from Stalybridge Station. 15:50, 16:15, 16:50, 17:15, 17:50

Waypoints: Mottram Church, Mottram Old Hall, Hobson Moor Quarries, Hobson Moor Cairn, Brushes Reservoirs, Huddersfield Canal

Notes:

No toilets at Broadbottom, use toilets on the train.

Unless we have frost, it is likely (as is becoming trademark on my walks) to be muddy, so please bring suitable walking boots.

While not ideal for a linear walk, if you wish to drive, buses are available (389, 236, 237) back to the Broadbottom line, or you can take the train in to Manchester. Just consult Google before you leave :)

If you are going to the Manchester Social, we will catch the train at 16:46
