Public Transport based walk with Sam Kennion.
A walk to the north of Manchester for a change. Following the Irwell valley between Radcliffe and the mouth of the river Croal. Taking in a few local landmarks with curious names (not mentioned below!).
Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport
We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.

18:15: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 18:30. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.
Adult Off Peak Return to Radcliffe, £4.30
You can also join the tram at Victoria station etc.
18:30: Train departs for the walk start at Radcliffe tram stop.
19:00: Walk starts at Radcliffe tram stop.
Return from Radcliffe tram stop. Return trams every 12 minutes up-to last tram at 23:30
Waypoints: MB&B Canal, Mount Sion, River Irwell, Shore Top Farm, Prestolee, Prestolee locks, 1936 breach, Steam crane, River Irwell, Handyside cast iron bridge.
Please note this a tram based walk. The departure time will be the first tram after 18:30 to leave Manchester Picadilly. The walk start time is approximate based upon the time the tram leaves Manchester. Car parking is available in station car park at walk start.
Please check on your return tram time if travelling beyond the centre of Manchester
