Public Transport based walk with Sarah Peppiatt.
The first of a two part walk today exploring the moors and valleys round Bamford. Stretch yourself by doing all 22 miles, get up early and do the first part before getting on with life, or have a nice lie in and join us in the afternoon: it's up to you!
Meet & Travel arrangements - Public Transport
We’ll use public transport from Manchester to travel to and return from the walk start/end.
Itinerary is below - click station links for map and further information.
07:40: Meet at Manchester Piccadilly for the train at 07:49. You will need to purchase a ticket prior to meeting.
If just doing the first walk return to Hathersage is £11.40, if doing both a return to Grindleford costs exactly the same. Or Wayfarer £13 may work best if coming into Manchester first.
07:49: Train departs for the walk start at Bamford Station.
08:45: Walk starts at Bamford Station.
Return from Hathersage Station. hourly aiming for 13:32
Waypoints: Hurst Clough; Bamford Moor; Ladybower Reservoir, River Derwent
The first part has been given a strenuous label partly because of a very rough and partially off path section over Bamford Moor and partly because a brisk pace needs to be maintained in order to get to Hathersage in time. If you're wishing for more of a meander the second walk would be better.
NB on the recce stingers were beginning to take over some of the stiles so shorts are worn at your own risk.
If doing both parts there you should bring enough food/drink for the whole 22 miles. We may have time for a top up in Hathersage but don't rely on it.
Full route (parts 1 and 2) is 22 miles and 890 m of ascent.,
