Hope to Hope with Lumpy Bits

Public Transport based walk with Ken Banks.

Walk Leader will join the train at New Mills

This is one of my favourite walks, if we're lucky there maybe a few Bluebells still about.

Its a varied walk along hillsides, through woods and beside the Derwent River. From Hope station we wander to the edge of the delightful if unfortunately named village of Shatton before a steep accent part way up to Shatton Moor.  We then take the bridleway across to Offerton Hall, with weather permitting splendid views accross to Stanage Edge and Burbage Rocks. The route then drops down beside the hall, to the Derwent River, which we follow to Leadmill Bridge. The walk then undulates up through Dunge and Callow woods, before the gentle accent up onto Smelting Hill and Abney Moor. A steep decent then follows down to Bradwell Village with a possible pub stop. It's then a pretty flat walk back through the meadows  to Hope, for the final pub stop. Hope Village is about 10 to 15 mins walk from the station.
