Public Transport based walk with Andrew Forbes.
Walk leader to join the train at Bredbury
A lovely circular walk of woodlands, bridges, a historic site, rivers, ridges, open moorland, rolling fields and valley views.
Paths are good for most of the route with a couple of short scrambles as well for good measure. There are two stepping stone river crossings that will be tricky if there's been recent heavy rain and may result in detours if not safe to cross. A few short sections were muddy/boggy on teh recce and care needs to be taken on a 1.5km section of road walking with no pavement after the bail out option in Hathersage. Care also needs to be taken going down a couple of short sections, which were partially obscured and could be slippy if there has been a lot of recent rain.
Ascent is fairly well spread out across the route however there is a longish but steady and a short but steep climb in the last few miles.
There are public toilets just over 8 miles into the walk and there is the option to leave the walk early at around 9.5 miles to catch the train back from Hathersage station (less than a km from the bail out point and the train back to Manchester is at 32 minutes past the hour up until 7.32pm then less frequent after that ). The rest of the group will continue on to Grindleford.
I'll aim to get us back to Grindleford for the 5.28pm train but it may end up being the 6.29pm dpending on the pace of the group.
