Being kinder up on Kinder

Public Transport based walk with Andrew Forbes.

14.9 mi

1041m

A hilly walk with a few tough climbs but the views are worth it. Given the time of year/available daylight we'll need a reasonably steady pace (without it being silly fast though) with a few short lunch stops and snacks stops along the way.

It's a little bit of road walking then fields and farmland as we head out of Glossop, which is soon replaced with moorland and open valley views as we continue to climb up to the first of a couple of trig points.  We pass the site of a plane crash on our way up to Kinder estate; working our way over to Kinder Downfall via some of the weird and wonderful rock formations up there before eventually heading back down to farmland via some of the penine way and kinder low.

There are some short sections of road walking, rocky bridleways and a few muddy sections so please bring gaiters/waterproofs and sturdy footwear.

The route should take around 7 - 7.5 hours to complete so we'll get either the 6.03pm or 7.03pm train back.  Anyone on a tight schedule who does not want to wait for the next train at Newmills Central can get the 5.45pm or 6.47pm into Piccadilly (it's on a different line than Central though so double check if you plan to get off before Piccadilly)
