Public Transport based walk with Andrew Forbes.
Walk leader to join the train at Stockport
A 13.5 mile walk through woodland, farmland, country lanes and a couple of pretty little villages. We'll see if we can find the wizard's face in amongst rocks and will stop off for an early lunch at either a lovely viewpoint if the weather is favourable, or a great wee tea room if it's not.
There are a couple of short sections of county lane walking that have no pavement so care will need to be taken on those sections. There were also a couple of short muddy stretches and several points where the path was partially overgrown with brambles/nettles on a recent reccy so expect the same on the day. Gaiters would be useful if you have them.
There is a small amount of ascent over the course of the route with most of it done within the first hour so this is suitable for people that want to try a longer walk than they're used to. There is one bail out point (Adlington train station) roughly 8.5 miles into the route with trains back to Manchester at 28 minutes past the hour. Your wayfarer ticket can be used on this as well if you decide to leave the walk early.
The walk should take around 5.5 hours but there are a couple of pubs that we go past that could extend this time a little.
There is a toilet near to the lunch stop but no toilets at either the start or end stations.
