A pleasantly surprising, varied and improved walk around where I grew up. We'll take in green hills and farmland, pretty riverside and canalside trails and industrial heritage in the mill towns of Bingley and Saltaire. If you missed Owain's recent walk in the area, here's another chance to explore it.
We'll start in the Sir Titus' UNESCO world heritage model village of Saltaire, crossing through Robert's Park and ascend the Shipley Glen Tramway path, continuing to the top of Baildon Hill where we can survey the genius of Sir Titus' creation from above. After descending, we traverse green countryside trails and farms over the tops above Eldwick and descend to Bingley's famous Five Rise Locks.
From there, we follow the pretty Riverside Walk through Myrtle Park before rejoining the Leeds to Liverpool Canal to see more locks, an aqueduct and follow the final home straight back to Saltaire where there'll be opportunity to check out Salt's Mill 1853 gallery, shops and cafe. http://www.saltsmill.org.uk/
There are plenty of food and drink options in Saltaire. Salts Mill and car park closes at 6pm. If you want to explore the village further, what about arriving a bit earlier?
