JANUARY

Saturday 10th: Night Walk - postponed due to icy paths

Sunday 11th: Limestone, limestone and limestone

Car-based walk 3.5 Boots 12 miles 490m climb Leader: Richard Washington

Description: A walk around some of the White Peak's best dales, and a visit to a cave. The route is mainly straightforward, but with a nice scattering of short, sharp climbs. The final stretch will be along Chee Dale, which is notoriously muddy and slippery, although the Monsal Trail can be taken instead, which mostly follows a disused railway line.

Meet Point: Deansgate Locks, Whitworth Street West, Manchester, M1 5LH for 09:00

Suggested Route: A6

Walk Start: Wyedale Car Park, three miles east of Buxton - around £3 per car

Walk Start Grid Reference: SK104725 (53° 14' 56" North 1° 50' 49" West)

Waypoints: Wye Dale, Woo Dale, Red Gap Farm, Cunning Dale, Kidtor Dale, Midshires Way through Deep Dale, Caxter way Lane, Chelmorton, Pennine Bridleway to Blackwell, Chee Dale, Wye Dale.

Extra: Please meet at Deansgate Locks so that car sharing can be optimised. Bring clean shoes for the car, and gaiters. A torch will enable you to explore the cave, and might be useful if we don't quite get back before dark. As it's likely to be cold, bring lunch that can be eaten on the move, so that we don't need to stop for very long.

 

Saturday 17th: Hadfield linear

Train-based walk 2.5 Boots 10 miles 490m climb Leader: Sarah Peppiatt

Description: A varied walk from Greenfield through woods and up on to rough moorland before returning by the Pennine Way and the Longdendale Trail to Hadfield.

Meet Point: Victoria station for train at 09:27.

Suggested Ticket: Rail Ranger £3.80 (returning on a different line)

Walk Start: Greenfield station at 10:00.

Waypoints: Greenfield station, Intake Lane, Chew Plantation, Chew Road, Chew Reservoir, Laddow Rocks, Crowden, Torside Reservoir, Hadfield

Return Services: From Hadfield xx:01 & xx:31

Extra: No toilets at the start of the walk or during the walk. The walking on the top and descending from Laddow Rocks is rough, boggy and very wet.In places it involves fording small streams. Gaiters are advisable.

 

Saturday 24th: Greenfield to Dovestone Circular

Train-based walk 2.5 Boots 8.5 miles 300m ascent Leader: Paul Senkans

Description: Walk is moderate to slightly strenuous and definitely not for beginners.

Meet Point: Manchester Victoria station for train at 09:27.

Suggested Ticket: Day Return to Greenfield

Walk Start: Greenfield station at 10:00.

Waypoints: Greenfield station, Dovestone Reservoir(toilets), Chew Road,Chew Reservoir, Dish Stone Brow, Fox Stone, (tricky bit where the path may have eroded), Ashway Stone, Yeomen Hey Reservoir, Dovestone Reservoir(toilets again), The Clarence Pub, Greenfield station.

Return Services: xx:53(tbc) train from Greenfield. Should be back for the 15:53.

Extra: Proper boots are essential. It will be very cold, and could snow or rain. Anyone travelling by car must be on time. Train arrives at Greenfield station at 09:50.
