Wednesday 21st February 2018: MAD Monthly Curry Night - Episode 3!

Organiser:

Oz

Description:

So, in keeping with Alex's monthly curry night proposal, I have seen fit to throw my suggestion into the hat.  I am organizing a tasty dinner at My Lahore in Manchester's Curry Mile.  This is a place I eat at regularly and have never had a bad meal or bad service.  The food is yummy and reasonably priced.  It has a great atmosphere and is always buzzing...perfect for the MAD crew!

There are also lots of dessert places on the strip if anyone fancies cake or ice cream or a brew afterwards!

Booking:

I have emailed the restaurant and they have told me that they don't take any bokings after 6pm.  We just come down and they will seat us according to numbers.  The man who got back to me said that it isn't so busy on a Wednesday. So no need to pre-order anything or pay a deposit.  Just come along if you fancy it!

Venue/Time:

My Lahore

14-18 Wilmslow Road

Manchester M14 5TQ

(It is towards the 'beginning' of the Curry Mile as you are coming out of the city centre.

Saturday 10th March 2018: A Pre Social Social - A Manchester Rice and Three.

Organiser:

Oli Fearn

Description:

In what I believe is the fourth instalment of the monthly curry nights, I invite you all to come for a quick ish and informal bite to eat at This and That ahead of Alex’s drinks in the NQ social later that eve.

Located on a somewhat scruffy back alley in the Northern Quarter, this cafeteria style Indian restaurant may seem unappealing to those who haven’t been before. But have faith, they’ve been around for over 30 years, and remain easily the most popular of the numerous Rice and Three cafes in the NQ / Ancoats area.

Rice and three curries wont set you back more than 6 pounds. Add a soft drink (they don’t sell alcohol) and a chapatti or two and you’ll still struggle to spend a tenner. Note that the restaurant is CASH ONLY

http://www.thisandthatcafe.co.uk/

Meet in The Bay Horse pub on Thomas Street at 6 PM for a quick pint, with a view to get to This and That for 6.30

Then onto Alex’s social for drinks in the NQ.

Booking:

no booking needed, note restaurant is cash only.

Venue/Time:

Meet in The Bay Horse pub on Thomas Street at 6 PM for a quick pint, with a view to get to This and That, Soap Street for 6.30

Saturday 14th April 2018: Calder Valley Rail Ale Trail

Organiser:

Lee Hesselden & Stephen Jones

Description:

Join us for an evening along the Calder Valley railway line. Starting at Dewsbury, we’ll slowly make our way back to Manchester Victoria stopping at a selection of West Yorkshire’s (and possibly one of Lancashire’s) best real ale pubs all in close proximity to their respective railway stations. All the pubs we intend to visit feature in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2018 (we’ve included some extracts from the guide below) and there are plenty of options for grabbing a bite to eat enroute. We may not run to schedule so we’ll be posting our progress on the Group’s Facebook page should you wish to join us part way through.

Dewsbury: West Riding Refreshment Rooms (start)

Multi award-winning pub in a Grade-II-listed station building. The excellent range of nine real ales always include a dark beer. Real cider is sold, as well as a selection of speciality bottled beers.

Dewsbury to Brighouse – 16:42 - 17:00

Brighouse: Market Tavern (5 min walk)

A single-story former butcher’s shop has been transformed into a micropub. Seating is available in the bar, in a small snug by the entrance, and in an outside drinking area. At least one dark beer is sold at all times. Real ciders include Thirsty Cross and one other which varies.

Brighouse to Sowerby Bridge – 18:00 - 18:09

Sowerby Bridge: Jubilee Refreshment Rooms (at the station)

Located in the only surviving part of the 1876 station building with walls adorned with interesting railway and brewery related memorabilia, this bar serves three changing local beers.

Sowerby Bridge to Mytholmroyd – 19:09 - 19:15

Mytholmroyd: Dusty Miller (3 min walk)

Built in 1760, this former coaching inn has a rich history, mainly associated with the Cragg Vale Coiners who reputedly held regular meetings here.

Mytholmroyd to Hebden Bridge – 20:09 - 20:12

Hebden Bridge: Calan’s Micropub (10 min walk)

Calderdale’s first micropub is an intimate, friendly and welcome experience. Five rotating ales, mainly from Northern microbreweries, are complemented by cider.

Hebden Bridge to Littleborough – 21:26 - 21:43

Littleborough: Red Lion (3 min walk)

Detached stone-built pub, nestling between the railway and canal, yet far older than both. There are four distinct rooms, each different in character. Up to six guest beers supplement the two regulars and the house beer from Phoenix. German and Belgian lagers and beers are sold on draught, plus traditional ciders from Thatchers and Westons.

Littleborough to Manchester Victoria – 22:43 - 23:07

Booking:

Just turn up!

Venue/Time:

For those not on the walk during the day, join us in the West Riding Refreshment Rooms at Dewsbury train station - we’re aiming to be at the pub from around 15:30.

Wednesday 13th June 2018: Curry night at Rajdoot Tandoori

Organiser:

Oli Fearn

Description:

In my well researched opinion the Rajdoot Tandoori is the very best of the “up market” curry houses in the city centre. However, I find it bizarre that whenever I mention the Rajdoot, very few people have ever heard of it! Trust me on this one though, it’s fantastic and has been around for 50 (!!) years for a good reason.

Hiding in plain sight next to the town hall on Albert Square, the Rajdoot Tandoori is conveniently placed for us to meet for a pre curry beverage at Albert’s Chop House on Albert’s Square. See you there 6.30 ish.

I have booked a table at the restaurant (just a couple of doors down from the pub) for 10 people at 7.30 pm,

Please email socials@madwalkers.org.uk  if you wish to reserve a place. First come first served with no deposit required. If we go above this number, I will look to extend our booking.

The restaurant is both vegetarian and vegan friendly.  Links to the restaurant website and menu can be found below.

http://www.rajdootmanchester.co.uk/

http://www.rajdootmanchester.co.uk/sites/default/files/Rajdoot%20Manchester%20Menu%202018_Latest.pdf

Finally, to save anyone checking, this won’t clash with the World Cup (which doesn’t start until the day after)

Booking:

Please email socials@madwalkers.org.uk  if you wish to reserve a place. First come first served. No deposit required.

Venue/Time:

Albert's Chop House Albert's Square 18.30
