Members arrange a wide variety of social events for the MAD Walkers. If you'd like to host an event, please visit the submission page.

Regular pub socials are held on the 1st Wednesday at Knott Bar, Deansgate.

Apart from the regular pub socials, and certain other events, priority on attending most social events is given to members of MAD Walkers - for full details see our Inclusion Policy

Friday 24th January: Manchester Beer & Cider Festival

Description:

Now that the National Winter Ales Festival has moved off to Derby, Manchester is having its own big festival at the new venue of the Velodrome. Fancy a beer or two in the middle of the track?! Take the tram to Velopark and around the back of Asda, or get one of the multiple buses bound for Ashton that head along Ashton New Road and alight at Asda. Otherwise it's about a 1.5 mile walk out from Manchester.

Saturday 1st February: Rugby Six Nations - France v England

Description:

The Rugby Six Nations are back on, so bring it on! I propose we go and watch FRANCE-ENGLAND as some of us have done in the past. It will be the second game of this season. It's always a good opportunity for healthy competition between our nations, amongst others. Who knows, France might even win it for once (the organiser's dream...)

French supporters very welcome, we also recruit other nationals for the occasion ;-) In any case, bring yourself, your smile, your flag!

Saturday 22nd February: Evening Trans-Peak Ale Trail

A Saturday evening train journey over the Pennines calling at no less than 6 pubs on the way. Leaving from Victoria station we will travel up the Calder Valley as far as Mirfield and return via Huddersfield and Stalybridge.

The proposed itinerary is below:

After the infamous clash of the titans last year we will again see who the MAD Walkers pool champion is. This year will be having a singles competition with not only the best player being crowned but also the worst will receive the wooden spoon. Tournament will run a dual knockout system.

Saturday 24th May: Wine Tasting at Harvey Leonard's, Glossop - NEW!

Description:

It's wine tasting with a difference, - you purchase a wine tasting card, then load on as much money as you wish, which you can then use in the wine tasting machine. It gives out 3 measures so you can try as much or as little as you like, if you have money left on the card it can be used at another time. There are also cheese boards, cheese & meat boards, bread & oil and olives, if anyone wishes to have some food while wine tasting.

Join me for a trip down the alternative ale trail in the lovely Calderdale Valley from Sowerby Bridge to Littleborough. All pubs serve real ale and have been in CAMRA's "Good Ale Guide" at some time or other.

Saturday 14th June: The MAD Walkers 10th Anniversary Celebration - NEW!

Description:

Celebrate ten years of MAD Walkers with a Boat Trip and a Night at the Museum!

We'll be taking a three hour cruise from Castlefield, followed by coach to a buffet dinner in the Manchester Museum Fossils Gallery, with an after party to round off the evening.

There may even be a few surprises along the way too...

Booking:

Tickets are £45 for current members, £49 for non-members.

There will be 60 tickets available - 45 tickets will go on sale at the Bluu Bar from 8.30pm on March 19th. If you can't get to the Bluu Bar 15 tickets will also be available by email to anniversaryevent@madwalkers.org.uk from 10pm on March 19th.

Payment is expected within 10 working days of your booking, preferably by BACS, when the status of your membership will be checked.

Two reserve lists will be operated, for bookings made at the Bluu Bar and for email bookings. Should either method not sell out, reserves from these lists will automatically get places.

No refunds will be possible until all tickets for the event have been sold and there are people available to take your place from reserve list.

If you are no longer able to attend, immediately inform the organisers on anniversaryevent@madwalkers.org.uk. Time is of the essence - it is up to the organisers to decide whether a replacement should be sought and how it should be done. If no replacement is found, you will still be liable for the ticket price

Following the success of the the Beer Festival earlier this year, there is a Summer Beer Festival at the National Cycling Centre.The emphasis is on light summer ales, with some porters and stouts plus a good selection of ciders on the list. There are over 60 beers and ciders to choose from.

Friday 19th September: Mahinda's Beer Festival

Description:

Known to many of the regular beer festival goers from his position behind the bar, Mahinda Kularatne has taken the next step and is organising his own beer festival. Beer and cider list yet to be drawn up, but there'll be at least 14 beers and 6 ciders to choose from.

Just turn up. Entry is £2 (for your glass) and then £1.50/half. Or you can buy an advance ticket at £5 for your glass and three halves (ask Jo).

Saturday 20th September: Wine Tasting at Harvey Leonard's, Glossop

Description:

It's wine tasting with a difference, - you purchase a wine tasting card, then load on as much money as you wish, which you can then use in the wine tasting machine. It gives out 3 measures so you can try as much or as little as you like, if you have money left on the card it can be used at another time. There are also cheese boards, cheese & meat boards, bread & oil and olives, if anyone wishes to have some food while wine tasting.

There is a Train from Manchester Piccadilly leaving at 6.18pm. Organiser will board the train at Godley, en route and meet people at Glossop Train Station at 6.47pm. Alternatively people can meet at the venue at 7pm, which is a short walk from Glossop Train Station. Return trains are 9.37pm and 10.37pm.

Saturday 4th October: MAD Day out in Liverpool

Description:

A day of Liverpudlian things to do, kicking off with an City Centre Walk in the morning, a trip on the Mersey Ferry, a visit to the Albert dock to soak up some culture and ending up with sampling a pub or two and then a meal.

Booking:

Just turn up. Arriving on the 9.55 from Manchester Piccadilly to Liverpool Lime Street, arriving for 11.00am, we will be meeting by the statue of Ken Dodd in the station.

We will be taking the 1.00pm Ferry from Liverpool Pier Head on an Explorer Cruise (£8.50 round trip), returning at 1.50pm when we will go over to the Albert Dock until 5pm when we'll go off into Liverpool for a bit to eat at the Hub Alehouse and Kitchen on Hanover St.

Have a great night out at a Ceili, with live music and calling by ALBIREO. No experience necessary, since steps are easy to pick up as you follow the caller.
