Walking eight or more miles in the countryside is not a walk in the park. A certain decent level of fitness is required, even for 1 Boot walks. We also have some easy walks of under five miles to the programme, to act as introductions to walking.

PLEASE NOTE - inclement weather can make even a one boot walk taxing!

We have a ‘Miles and MAD Boots’ walk rating system:

This is how we work it out -

Distance

Less than 7.5 miles - add 0.5 boot

7.5 - 10 miles - add 1 boot

10 – 12.5miles - add 1.5 boots

12.5 miles + - add 2.5 boots

Ascent

Less than 250m - add nothing

250m - 500m - add 0.5 boot

500m - 750 m - add 1 boot

750m + - add 1.5 boot

Terrain

Normal well manicured paths i.e. most urban walks - add nothing

Rough paths - add 0.5 boot

Bad paths wth bog etc and/or scrambling - add 1 boot

Optional 0.5 boot to be added as leaders discretion for reasons not mentioned here i.e. snow and ice etc.
