Our activities can be challenging and potentially dangerous and everybody who comes with us does so at their own risk. Event leaders will act with the principle of group safety in mind, but each person is responsible for his or her own safety at all times. In particular you are responsible for ensuring that you are fit enough to undertake the Event according to its description and that you have adequate equipment with you, e.g. fluids, food, waterproof clothing and personal first aid on a walk. If you feel unsafe at any time, please make the Event leader aware immediately.

With regard to walks, all our walk leaders are group members who volunteer their services. Although they are competent walkers, they have no special training. They will be familiar with the walk area having reccied the route or walked in the area for many years but the group also likes to venture into areas we've not walked in before, particularly on weekends away, so the leader will not always know the area well. Please note that walk leaders are not required to carry spare food, water, warm clothing, first aid or other equipment.

The Ramblers does provide liability insurance for walk leaders, dependent on good planning (typically a reccy or good prior knowledge of the area), reasonable decisions on the day and the knowledge and approval of the walk by the group Committee, typically conferred by proxy through the Walks Coordinator.

The Ramblers does not provide any kind of personal injury insurance for other members of the group. Please see www.ramblers.org.uk for more details. If you are concerned about the risks of our activities, consider taking out a separate personal insurance plan, for example with the BMC (www.thebmc.co.uk).
