The last few years have seen a revolution in the world of walking in the UK, with the launch of walking groups specifically tailored to people in their 20s and 30s.

The Ramblers' Association now has more than 50 younger persons groups. With the establishment of the Manchester and District 20s-30s Walking Group, in the city that was home to many of the famous Kinder Trespassers, the concept has, in a way, come home.

Launching on 19th May 2004, the group now has over 250 members.

Our group belongs to the Manchester and High Peak Area of the Ramblers Association, and our membership area covers Greater Manchester - Bury, Bolton, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan and the High Peak District of Derbyshire.

Volunteering

All MAD activities are organised and led by volunteers, and to make the group even more of a success, we need YOUR help!

From leading a walk to organising a social, from writing an article or review for the website to distributing posters to outdoor shops, there are plenty of ways in which you can help your group.

If you have any ideas for walks or socials, or would like to volunteer in any way, or have any suggestions for the group and the direction in which it should be going, or even comments and suggestions about the website, please have a word with one of the MAD committee, or email

To find out more about volunteering visit the Ramblers Volunteering Page.

Committee

Elections to the committee occur annually at the AGM, though the committee has the right to co-opt members who volunteer to fill vacant positions, by vote at a quarterly committee meeting. All committee posts become available at every AGM.

As the group is growing fast, we really do encourage new people onto the committee as new blood gives new ideas and new viewpoints.

You can turn up to any committee meets - they currently occur at least quarterly,  just email the chair to find out when the next one is.
